The category consisted of 53 entries. “This is the Pilsener” is a golden colored lager that has a bright clarity and large white head. It has terrific hop balance and beautiful German “nobel hop” type aroma and flavor, over a big rich malty body. “It is a true honor to receive this recognition for Hoppers,” said Ted Morton, CEO Sizzling Platter. “We always look forward to putting our beers to-the-test on a national platform.” This is the third, GABF award Donovan Steele has earned for Hoppers since becoming brew master in 2007. Steele captured gold in 2009 for “Lil Pips Mild Brown” in the English Style Dark Mild Ale division. He won gold again in 2011 for “Steinknocker” in the German-Style Marzen category. Hoppers has earned 34 national awards for its beers since it opened in Sandy, Utah in 1996. “Our guests are really liking ‘This is the Pilsener’,” said Mark Howe, vice president of operations for Sizzling Platter. “Those who frequent Hoppers know why we call it “Your Local Chill,” and they’ve come to expect smooth drinking, award-winning beers.
